Chitwan National Park

The Chitwan National Park (CNP) is the first and most famous wildlife destination of Nepal. It is situated at the southern part of Kathmandu at the distance of about 170 KM. It is about 6- hour bus ride, and 15-minute flight from the capital. The total area of this park is measured as 932 sq. KM. The park includes hilly areas of the Siwalik range covered by deciduous saal forest and captured with grass, savannah and riverine vegetation. The park is made up of the flood plains of the Narayani, Rapti and Reu rivers.

While exploring these landscapes and area any one can enjoy the different species of endangered wildlife such as Asian one horned rhinoceros and Royal Bengal tigers, four different species of deer, leopards, langurs, sloth bears, wild boars, rhesus monkeys, wild dogs, white stocking gaurs and many other smaller animals. Two different type of crocodiles Ghariyal and marsh mugger cavort in the river water. This park is also famous as a bird watchers paradise with more than 450 different species of regular and migrant birds including cormorants, egrets, stork geese, jingle fowl, king fishers and endangered spices such as Bengal florician, Lesser florician, Brahmin, duck, pintails, Indian pitta and parakeets.

* Village tour: This tour will bring you close to the ethnic inhabitants (known as Tharu) of this area. Normally, they live in a communal family, their houses are like huts and look smaller from outside, but they have enough space for their entire family members on the inside, Most houses are decorated with their traditional colorful paints on their outer wall. Women scrub and clean their houses daily and men can be seen taking their cattle to the nearby jungle in the morning and later in the day, they fish in the river for their food.

** Cultural Program: This is a refreshing cultural entertainment  highlight of your time while you are in the park, even if you feel tired from the jungle activities. On one evening you can enjoy the exciting Tharu cultural stick dance. For a long time, the Tharu community were innocent people and didnt have significant communication with the tourists at first. They gradually started to welcome tourists with their dance at first and these days they are doing it commercially and professionally combining with Nepali and Indian songs and dances as well.
